FEURIGE FLAMENCO-HAUPTSTADT
Von Plakat- und Reklamewänden schreit es jeden an: Sevilla ist die Flamenco-Hauptstadt! Die 705.000 Sevillanos, wie sie sich selbst gerne nennen, sind stolz auf ihre Geschichte. Touristen, die das Spektakel sehen möchten, sollten auf der Hut sein: vor überteuerten und schlecht inszenierten Shows. Wer keine Amateure in billigen Plastikoutfits und unprofessioneller Attitüde sehen will, sollte ins „La Carboneria“ gehen (Santa Cruz – c/Levies), mit freiem Eintritt und einheimischem Publikum. Und im Winter verwandelt sich der Vorderraum dank zweier Kamine in eine kuschelige Aufwärmstube.
PACK DIE SHORTS EIN ...
Im Sommer ist Sevilla brütend heiß mit einem Temperaturdurchschnitt von 36 Grad Celsius zwischen Juli und August. In den verregneten Wintermonaten November bis Februar ist es das genaue Gegenteil. Dennoch locken über 230 Tage im Jahr mit mehr als 20 Grad Celsius.Sevilla ist nach Madrid, Barcelona und Valencia die viertgrößte Szenemetropole Spaniens. Die Szene selbst ist sehr klein, aber lebhaft. Alles liegt in Fußnähe und die spanischen Jungs wissen definitiv, wie man richtig feiert. Wie in Spanien üblich öffnen alle Clubs sehr spät, und so lohnt es sich vor Mitternacht erst gar nicht, in sein Partyoutfit zu schlüpfen. Der älteste Club der Stadt „Itaka“ (31, Calle Amor de Dios) kommt nicht mal vor 3 Uhr morgens in Gang – eine Uhrzeit, zu der viele von uns nach Hause aufbrechen und sich dem Schönheitsschlaf widmen.Der Szenebezirk von Sevilla befindet sich gleich neben der „Alameda de Hercules Plaza“ mit aneinandergereihten Cafés und Bars. Es gibt mehr als ein Dutzend an Ausgehmöglichkeiten, und natürlich boomt die ganze Gegend am Feierabend und an Wochenenden. Es tummeln sich hunderte von Menschen drinnen und draußen mit Drinks und Tapas. Doch die Szene selbst sollte nicht der Grund für einen Sevillabesuch sein, denn es gibt viel Interessantes zu sehen und zu erleben.
NIMM DIE DIGICAM MIT ...
Eine der größten und berühmtesten Attraktionen ist das Alcázar, das für die christlichen Könige Alfonso X. und seinen Sohn Pedro I. gebaut wurde. Ein Innenhof, umgeben vom Königlichen Palast, ist der Mittelpunkt von Alcázar und wird immer noch gelegentlich genutzt. Es ist ein skurriler Stil-Mix aus morgenländischen Formen und dem arabisch geprägten Mudéjar-Stil. Lateinische Aufschriften von der königlichen Hoheit wetteifern mit solchen von den Tugenden Allahs. Führungen werden halbstündlich angeboten und es gibt mindestens drei frisch verheiratete Ehepaare, die sich fotografieren lassen, während man durch den riesigen Garten spaziert.
Eine absolute Sehenswürdigkeit ist die im späten 12. Jahrhundert erbaute gotische Kathedrale von Sevilla. Mitten in der Stadt gelegen besetzt sie das Gelände einer ehemaligen Moschee. Das Mittelschiff türmt sich zu einer imposanten Höhe von 42 Metern auf und selbst die Seitenflügel erscheinen groß genug, um eine ganze Kirche zu beherbergen. Die gesamte Anlage erstreckt sich über 11.520 Quadratmeter, und laut neuester Volumenberechnungen ist es die größte Kirche der Welt, noch vor der Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London und dem Petersdom in Rom. Am Ende des ersten Seitenschiffs gibt es eine Reihe von Räumen im prunkvollen Plateresque-Stil aus dem Jahr 1530 von Diego de Riano, einem der führenden Vertreter dieser dekorativen Architektur aus der späten spanischen Renaissance. Den Kirchenturm muss man wegen der atemberaubenden Aussicht einfach besteigen.
Die Stierkampfarena „La Maestranza“ sieht vom Gipfel der Kathedrale nur einen Katzensprung entfernt aus, in Wirklichkeit sind es aber 30 Minuten Fußweg. Sie ist ein gewaltiges Bauwerk mit einem Fassungsvermögen von bis zu 13.500 Zuschauern. Die Akustik darin ist so gut, dass man den Stier buchstäblich atmen hört – na ja, fast.
UND DANN AB IN DEN PARK
Wer sich nicht so sehr für Tiertötung zu Showzwecken interessiert, der kann sich zum nahe gelegenen Fluss Guadalquivir begeben. Dort gibt es wunderbare Restaurants, die schmackhaften frischen Fisch servieren. Touristen mischen sich dort unter die Einheimischen, und die ganze Gegend ist von einer kosmopolitischen Atmosphäre erfüllt. Entlang dem Fluss füllen sich im Sommer die prächtigen Parkanlagen mit schönen Menschen, die sich sonnen, picknicken oder spazieren gehen.
Der María Luisa Park ist einer der größten der Stadt. Er wurde 1929 anlässlich der lateinamerikanischen Ausstellung mit einer Fläche von über 400.000 Quadrat-metern als romantischer Garten für den Palast von San Telmo angelegt. Wunderschön ist auch der Murillo Park, der an die Mauern des Alcázar grenzt und in den Stadtteil Santa Cruz führt. Er ist im sevillanischen Stil gehalten, voll von Arkaden, Lauben, Keramikarbeiten und üppigen Blumen.
Mit Ausnahme von vielleicht Frankreich und Deutschland wird man nirgendwo mehr Raucher in geschlossenen Räumen finden als in Spanien. Aber selbst als Nichtraucher muss man die „Calle San Fernando“ besuchen, die ein Teil der Universität ist. Die gewaltige alte Tabakfabrik gehörte zu den Grundpfeilern der hiesigen Wirtschaft. Sie wurde im 18. Jahrhundert errichtet und bediente die Nikotinsucht der gesamten Nation bis in die Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts hinein. In der Hochphase verfügte die Fabrik über Ställe für 400 Maultiere, hatte 24 Patios (Innenhöfe), ein eigenes Gefängnis und sogar eine Kindertagesstätte.
Aus welchem Grund auch immer man Sevilla besucht, eines ist sicher: Diese unterschätzte Stadt ist zum Verlieben.

Das EL MUNDO (C Siete Revueltas 5) verändert sich je nach Veranstaltung: Abgesehen von der Flamenco-Nacht am Dienstag gibt es meistens ein schwullesbisches Thema, und es lohnt sich immer für einen Drink.
BEST TO RELAX
Zehn Minuten Fußweg von Giralda entfernt befindet sich das wunderbar restaurierte arabische Bad AIRE DE SEVILLA. Für 28 Euro kann man zwei Stunden lang in den Whirlpools und Dampfbädern relaxen.
